FAQs
There are 2 videos you will be asked to submit. The first video will be sent along with your application. You will be asked to introduce yourself to a 3-year-old child, then tell Zebra English a little bit about yourself: where you are from, your teaching experience, and your qualifications. This is your chance to ‘wow’ Zebra English and let them see how amazing you are! Be happy, enthusiastic, have lots of energy and really show them what makes you special. If they like your video you will be asked to continue the hiring process so make sure this video is you putting your best foot forward!
The second video is when you are a contracted teacher. You will again be introducing yourself to a 3-year-old child. What makes this video different from your first video is that you can explain what you do in your classroom and what makes you a great teacher. Example: “Hello! My name is Teacher … How are you? I’m happy to see you! In my classroom, we sing, learn, and have fun! I can’t wait to see you in my classroom!” Think of this as a way to introduce yourself to future students and their parents.
Classes can be booked daily or short notice depending on your availability.
Will this only be for my available time slots? 24-hour notice is a great way to get classes booked! When the 24-hour button is on you can be notified via text message up to 1 hour before class starts. A class will be added to your schedule and you will be paid an additional $2.00 for teaching a short notice class. You can turn off the 24-hour notice button at any time. By doing that you will be given 24 hours notice when a new class has been assigned to you. The 24-hour notice classes will only be assigned to you when the button is turned on and only classes that you have marked as available will be assigned to you.
You can choose your availability in increments of: 1 week, 4 weeks, 8 weeks and 12 weeks. Placing your availability 12 weeks allows more opportunities for increased bookings.
Trial students are students who are already using the ZebraEnglish learning app but are trying out working with a teacher. When you get a trial student you will have two lessons with that student. If the parent likes your teaching style they can then choose you to be their child’s regular teacher. They will then become your regular student.
Regular students are ones who have been assigned to you or are students who had two trial classes with you and the parent chose you to be their teacher. You meet with your regular student once a week on the same day and time. You can also be assigned a regular student by the automated booking system based on your availability.
It’s best to open your availability at least 12 weeks out. This gives the automated booking system more of a chance to book classes for you.
The available hours to teach with ZebraEnglish are from 8:30 am BJT to 9 pm BJT Monday through Sunday.
The PT slots stand for Peak Time slots and The PPT stands for ones that are Peak Peak Time and translate as the most booked slots for their students.
PT M-Sun 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm BJT (2 slots)
PT Sat-Sun 11:00 am to 6:00 pm BJT
PPT M-Sun 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm BJT
PPT Sat-Sun 8:30 am to 11:00 am BJT
When it is time for class to start the screen will go black and there will be an indicator showing you to click the ‘class begin’ button. It is up to you to hit the ‘class begin’ button for every class. When class is over you will again push the same button but it will read ‘class end’. Click this button then exit class.
It’s best to enter the classroom a few minutes early to make sure your equipment is working. When you enter the classroom your camera and your microphone will be on. Make sure you cover your camera or turn it off before class starts.
No! Zebra English wants you to utilize the learning platform and your TPR. Classes are interactive, game-based, and fun so using extra props for classes is not needed.

Trial, regular, supplemental.
- Trial students are students who are already using the ZebraEnglish learning app but want to try taking a class with a teacher. You teach a trial student 2 times and if the parent likes your teaching style they can choose you to be their child’s regular teacher.
- Regular students are those who you meet once a week to teach. They are your assigned student and you keep that student for as long as your availability allows.
- Supplemental students are students whose regular teacher is unable to teach that day. If assigned a supplemental student, that means you will be a substitute teacher for that class. Feedback is still required for supplemental student classes.
Yes, there are 3 times during the week that ZE closes and no classes are taught during that time. They are Chinese New Year for 2 weeks beginning in Jan or Feb, Labour Day for 5 days first of May, and Golden Week for 7 days the first of October.
